A Night Out to Remember

by

Everyone has a lot of commitments throughout the day, so when it comes to dinner time it can be difficult to find enough energy to make a meal for you and/or your family. Eating out isn’t always an affordable option, but today it can be a charitable one!

Tonight you can choose to dine out and support the work of the Aids Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo and Area (ACCKWA). This organization has been in existence for approximately 25 years and responds to the needs of those who are affected by HIV/AIDS in various ways. Anyone can go for anonymous HIV testing, learn more about disease prevention, access the safe needle exchange program, and many other services.  You can check out the many services they provide by looking at their website here.

One service that our program has partnered with ACCKWA to offer is a bi-weekly food hamper for people dealing with HIV/AIDS and who are food insecure. This relationship has been going on for many years, and similar programs exist here and there across the country. It is especially critical to maintain a healthy diet if you are having problems with your immune system and also, very difficult, if you are not only struggling to stay healthy, but also living on a low income.  The hamper is provided every two weeks and they focus on providing fresher produce which is difficult to get if you are using government income assistance programs or working low wage jobs.

With the assistance of a few great ACCKWA volunteers who deliver the hampers we are happy to provide the extra help to the handful of ACCKWA’s clients who need it. But how you can help?  Well, if you’re looking for an easy dinner option tonight, go out to support their annual “A Taste for Life” campaign. Twenty-five percent of each of your bill, after 5pm, will be donated to support the work of ACCKWA if you eat out at any of the following restaurants and mention the Taste for Life campaign.

  • Vijay’s Indian Cuisine located at 380 Weber Street West in Kitchener. (519-743-6060).
  • Fireside Deli and Family Restaurant located at 800 Ottawa Street South in Kitchener. (519-581-1200).
  • The Jane Bond located at 5 Princess Street West in Waterloo. (519-886-1689).
  • Angel’s Diner located at 560 Hespeler Road in Cambridge. (519-623-4389).

It is recommended that you mention the campaign to ensure that your contribution is donated.

It’s one night only – so get your reservation before it’s gone! Help support those waiting for a cure.

“The concept is simple, the cause is great, and the benefits to all involved are many.” – A quote from the ACCKWA website.
